Holiday Season has arrived!

Hi!

Yes, the wonderful holiday season has arrived!  This means it is time to consider the purchase of the absolute best Christmas present ever!  I am referring to booking a CRUISE and becoming the 'Parents of the Year' or the 'Husband of the Year' or the 'Boyfriend of the Year' or you get the idea!  Cruising is the best value for your travel dollar and you can buy a 3 day cruise for as little as $299 per person.  Cruise lines offer cruises of varying duration from the 2 day 'cruise to nowhere' to 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or more days.  You can even book back to back cruises on the same ship with two different itineraries.  Many ships in the Caribbean in the winter offer an Eastern Caribbean sailing one week followed by a Western Caribbean sailing the next week.  You might even find two different Southern Caribbean sailings on the same ship too!

Ships come in many sizes with each cruise line catering to a slightly different market.  For example, Seabourn Cruises offers small yacht sized ships with very few guests meaning you will have highly personalized service but you might pay a bit more for this.  Norwegian Cruise Line offers its signature Freestyle Cruising on its ships where you decide when and where you wish to eat each night allowing for flexibility and dining options.  Carnival typically offers its cruise product for something like $70 per day as an approximate rate.  All lines went crazy in the 1990s and early 2000s with building new ships with each trying to cater to what they thought the guests would like.  Royal Caribbean added activities like ice skating rinks and surfing simulators while Carnival was the first to have water slide and NCL offers bowling on two of its ships.  Even Disney has a new ship this year and another entering service next year.

Let's talk cruise vacations - check out my YouTube channel susan050359 for some reasons why you deserve a cruise!  Follow me on twitter @SusanPhelan.  My e-mail address is phelan_susan@yahoo.com and my phone number is 860-582-0372 so please contact me so we can fulfill that "Parents of the Year" nomination.  Thanks for reading!

Seabourn Cruise Line

Looking for the intimacy of yacht cruising with very few guests?  Consider booking with Seabourn!  This line has 6 ships in two categories - 3 sail with just 208 guests and 3 sail with 450 guests.  Pricing may be higher than Seabourn's sister line Carnival but all guest cabins are suites and all offer ocean views! Many, in fact most, cabins displayed on the deck plans come with a tub which in cruising is not the norm.  Yes, lines may offer tubs in full suites but since other lines do not offer all-suite accommodations like Seabourn does, this make Seabourn standout!  Plus, with this smaller ship the itineraries may be longer like 14 or 15 day sailings where guests call on a number of ports during their cruises.  Seabourn even has its own attached marina in the stern of the ship.  It must be nice to be able to say launch a kayak or a Zodiac or maybe just dive into the sea from the marina!

If you have the available vacation time or maybe you are retired and have always wanted to cruise the Mediterranean Sea, South America or even wanted a Transatlantic cruise, this is the line for you!  Call me at 860-582-0372, Sue Phelan, to discuss this cruise option.  Christmas is coming!  Hanukkah is coming!  Kwanzaa is coming!  Maybe your anniversary is coming!  Or your birthday is coming!

I welcome any and all comments about my blog entries and if anyone has sailed with Seabourn, I would love to hear from you!  My e-mail address is phelan_susan@yahoo.com!  Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you!

First Major Snow!

Yes, it is really snowing this afternoon here in central CT!  YUK!  As I absolutely hate snow, this is a sorry situation!  I am not responsible for shoveling or snow plowing which is good but will have to move my car at some point when the landlord wants to plow.  And since it is only October, many of the trees still have lots of leaves on them so there is a concern about broken limbs and possible power loss!  I hope we don't lose power!

Looking at the big flakes does make me think of the Christmas Holiday and shopping.  I suggest surprising your special someone, your parents, your children, your top employees with a cruise as the best holiday present ever!  Cruises offer activities, variety, food, entertainment and a great vacation!  How about a week or a long weekend in the Caribbean this winter?  You can relax and soak up some sun while getting away from winter!

Check out my YouTube channel susan050359 for some reasons that you deserve a cruise!  Then call me to book your reservation!  Have a great day and take it easy if you must shovel snow where you live!

Happy Birthday Mohegan Sun!

Mohegan Sun turns 15 this month and this weekend is the big celebration complete with a Buddy Valastro cake, book signings, celebrities, Dierks Bentley for free in the Wolf Den and for the big highlight - JENNIFER LOPEZ - in concert at the Arena on Saturday night!  Hope you were lucky enough to score some tickets to the concert but if not, consider heading down to Mohegan Sun to go celebrity watching and wish them a big Happy Anniversary!  The full schedule of events planned for the weekend can be found on their website at www.mohegansun.com

Please drive safely if you do go the Mohegan this weekend - don't drink and drive, don't speed, obey traffic laws or police direction and park in a designated spot only!  Yes, this is a bit of a pet peeve for me as it always surprises me that people choose to park in more than one space or in a clearly lined spot that is absolutely NOT a parking space!  Mohegan has 4 parking garages for its guests plus lots of outdoor parking and even RV parking.  For spots that are a distance away from the entrances, they utilize shuttle buses for your comfort.

Please be patient if you are at Mohegan as you may have to wait for a seat in a restaurant or the buffet. You may also have to wait a minute for a cashier or a slot attendant or a seat at a gaming table as I expect that they will be very busy this weekend!  Take that wait time to talk with the person next to you and maybe make a new friend.

And when you leave Mohegan Sun please drive safely because it is always possible that there will be a State Police presence on the highways to ensure public safety.  Thanks for reading!

Connecticut Tourism

Hi!  I follow @MysticCtTweets on Twitter and this wonderful account actively promotes tourism and places to go and things to do in the 42 towns of Mystic Country in Connecticut.  Most the tourist dollars generated in CT come from this region of the state.  Mystic (the town itself) is host to two large attractions in Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium.  Check out the whaling past of this area or the fish and water life of the Aquarium.  Southeastern CT is home to the two largest North American casinos in Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun Casino.  Both of these venues offer world-class gaming, upscale hotels, great restaurants, comedy and musical entertainment.  Both casinos offer shopping if you are not a gaming enthusiast and Foxwoods offers high stakes Bingo.
Recent tweets promote antiquing in Putnam, Halloween events, New London's Fall food stroll (makes me hungry just reading that tweet!), the Jersey Shore cast at Mohegan Sun's 15th Anniversary celebration this weekend and the Inn at Stonington where Meryl Streep stayed recently while filming a movie in the area.

If you are planning a trip to Connecticut, follow @MysticCtTweets on Twitter to create your what to see and do list before you get here.  Thanks for reading!

Carnival Cruise Line's Cash Back!

As part of National Cruise Vacation Week (Oct 17-23), Carnival is offering its guests with a new booking this week up to $300 Cash Back per stateroom!!  Of course, certain restrictions may apply like you must book a minimum cabin category of 4A.  Also, according to the notice I received, the cash back is in the form of onboard credit to the guest's Sail and Sign account.  The amounts range from $50 for 3-4 night cruises, $100 for 5 night cruises, $150 for 6 nights or more with 12 night European cruises offering the $300 cash back.  Travel must be completed by December 2012 to qualify.

National Cruise Vacation Week

Yes folks, there is now a National Cruise Vacation Week which means that this is the best time to book your next cruise vacation with the cruise line of your choice!  Why?  Because this week is also National Cruise Vacation Sale Week!  Cruise lines are offering special pricing and possible shipboard credit if you book your cruise this week.  And this would be the perfect holiday gift for that special someone in your life!  Or maybe you want to take your family on a great vacation!  Perhaps you and your siblings don't know what to give your parents anymore as they have everything they could possibly need or want.  Or maybe they have a milestone anniversary approaching.  Then consider a cruise as a great way to celebrate that anniversary with them surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Group travel on a cruise starts with 8 cabins (and mulitples thereof) making building your group easy as you don't need 500 people.  Cruise lines need to fill their cabins and are willing to offer great rates for group travelers.  In addition these lines may offer amenities to the group as a thank you for traveling with them.

Now is the time to book your 2012 cruise.  By booking early, you may receive Early Booking Discounts but even more importantly, you have the best cabin selection available!  For example, maybe you want a Family Suite that can sleep 6 guests.  Many ships may offer this style but each ship may only have 6 or 8 of this style so they are sold early.  Maybe you want to be near the elevators or on a high or low deck or a suite.  Reserve your cruise early for all of these options to be available for you!

To discuss cruising or make your reservation, call me Sue Phelan at 860-582-0372 or send me an email at phelan_susan@yahoo.com.  It would be my pleasure to talk about one of my favorite subjects - Cruising.  Thanks for reading.

NCL News

In an effort to promote cruise lines equally and pass on the news today's blog entry is about Norwegian Cruise Line.  Recently NCL announced that its 144,000 grt ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, scheduled for delivery in May 2013 will be 'home-ported' in New York City!  NCL will sail this ship on cruises to Bermuda from May to October 2013 with itineraries after October to be determined.  NCL guaranteed a minimum of 88 cruises from New York.  What does 'home-porting' mean?  Well, to the city of embarkation this means the potential of lots of revenue from the guests starting or ending their cruise from this port.  Many cruise guests, especially those coming from distant cities, will book either a pre-cruise or post-cruise stay of a few nights in this city.  This means hotel rooms are filled and money is spent on meals, shopping or in the case of NYC - perhaps the theatre and museums.  NCL and New York will need to enhance the current terminal at the pier to accommodate a ship of this size.  Currently the NCL ship sailing to Bermuda from New York carries 2400 guests while the NCL Breakaway will carry 4400 guests.

NCL is known for Freestyle Cruising.  If you and your party want your evening meal at 5:00 p.m. at restaurant A fine - no reservations are required.  Maybe tomorrow you want to have a meal at restaurant B at 8:00 p.m. - this is OK too.  You will want to remember that some restaurants may not seat a huge number of people at one time and that some times will be prime time so you may have a wait to be seated.  I also believe that due to Freestyle Cruising you must pre-pay your gratuities.

Are you ready to book your 2013 Bermuda cruise on the NCL Breakaway?  Then check out my NCL video on YouTube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAnULlEfznE.  This video is 1 minute long and shows why you and your family deserve to go on an NCL Cruise Vacation.  Please contact me when you are ready to book your cruise at phelan_susan@yahoo.com or 860-582-0372 and I will be happy to assist you in the reservation process.  Thanks for reading!

Holland America 2 Week Sale

Last time it was RCCL's 2-day WOW Sale and this time it is Holland America's 2 WEEK Sale!  Holland America sails everywhere and its fleet looks like ocean liners painted black and white.  I have never cruised with this line myself but did meet some people at the airport years ago that told me the only line they cruise with is Holland America.  From what they said the service was second to none!  I believe this line caters to the over 50 or 55 guest so if your choice in cruising is for a more quiet experience with the potential for less noise from children running around then this might be a good choice for you.  Some sample fares for the sale (straight from the HAL e-mail announcement of the sale include:

1. Alaska from $699
2. Caribbean from $449
3. Europe from $899
4. Holiday from $549
5. Panama Canal from $799

Most times the fares noted are for the lowest category cabin which is normally an interior cabin.  Fares do not include airfare to the departure city or taxes or port charges.  If you were considering a Holland America cruise, book by Oct 23, 2011 to take advantage of this sale.  With the quoted fares low,  I would not expect the cabin availability to last long.

Come see why the Nation of Why Not offers so much for you to enjoy as you sail to almost anywhere in the world!  Royal Caribbean ships are known for their signature rock climbing walls, Flow Rider surfing simulators (Freedom and Oasis class ships), ice skating rinks (Voyager, Freedom and Oasis class), fine dining and in my opinion incredible crew!  So when you decide which ship or cruise to book (or you need some help in deciding which one), call me Sue Phelan at 860-582-0372.  Let's get you a reservation for your next great vacation!  Thanks for reading!

Hey Cruisers!

There is so much going on in the cruising industry!  First, today Carnival had a major announcement regarding additions and enhancements to all their Fun Ships.  These include a Guy Fieri burger restaurant, adding a RedFrog Rum Bar poolside for those great frozen rum drinks and ice cold beers, an EA Sports bar, additional dining venues, George Lopez as comedy consultant to the cruise line, Hasbro-inspired games and more.  Enhancements will start this year on the Carnival Liberty and continue through 2015.  For more information on Fun Ship 2.0 as this project is called, see the Carnival website.  Then when you are ready to book your cruise on the Fun Ships, call Sue at 860-582-0372.

Theme Cruises Continuation

Hi again for today!

I forgot to add some tags to my first post today as I was in a hurry!  Also, I checked out the Sixthman.net web site as they were listed as the organizers of the TCM Classic Cruises mentioned in my earlier post today.  The company web site shows a number of news releases and seems to specialize in music themed cruises - so check them out if you are so inclined.

Why not create your own Theme / Group Cruise?  You could create your own family reunion cruise, your neighborhood cruise, your book club cruise, Little League or Soccer or Scouts cruise or just about anything that a group of you have in common.  Maybe you own a company and want to reward your top sales producers with a cruise.  Maybe a 3 or 4 day cruise would be a great place to have your off-site strategy meeting.  Many ships have conference rooms, a cinema or a lounge area that can be reserved as a meeting location.  Group cruises allow for great rates and sometimes amenities for the group!  Cruises ARE the best value for your travel dollar!

Ready to book that group or theme cruise?  Call me at 860-582-0372, e-mail me at phelan_susan@yahoo.com and check out my YouTube channel susan050359.  You ALWAYS deserve a cruise!  Thanks for reading!

Sixthman Theme Cruise Organizers

Sixthman Theme Cruise Organizers announced that many years after starring in McHale's Navy, Ernest Borgnine will be returning to sea on a TCM Classic Cruise!  The cruise is scheduled for December 8, 2011 on the Celebrity Millennium sailing from Ft Lauderdale to Key West and Cozumel.  For many, you may think this date is too close to the Holiday season.  However, as the cruise has only a 4 night duration, you will be back home in plenty of time to finish your holiday shopping, wrapping, meal planning and baking.  Also, pricing for a December cruise that avoids the Christmas and New Year Holidays is less expensive.  Planned activities on this cruise include movie screenings, panel discussions and trivia contests.  Other guests scheduled to join Mr.  Borgnine include Tippi Hedren, Norman Jewison and Eva Marie Saint.  If you have never cruised with Celebrity you are in for a real treat!  Their motto is 'exceeding your expectations' and they certainly do exceed expectations!  Upon checking in and boarding the ship, a cabin attendant or staff member actually escorts you to your cabin.  This was the only cruise line I have traveled with that gave this service.  My escort took the carry-on luggage from 4 guests.  We got on the elevator and it stopped a deck 5; additional guests got on and now the alarm came on to indicate too much weight!  Our escort got off and must have RUN the stairs to go to deck 7 because she arrived there BEFORE the elevator!  I had to say this situation certainly set a high standard for the service on this line.

When you are ready to book this cruise or any other, check out my YouTube channel susan050359, e-mail me at phelan_susan@yahoo.com or call me at 860-582-0372.  Thanks for reading!

Disney Family Cruises

My video for Disney Cruise Lines has been created and uploaded to YouTube. My channel is susan050359 so you can find my videos quickly. As each one is created using the Stupeflix application, they are all only 1 minute in length as that is what you get for free! I also figure that keeping them short can only increase views because everyone has a minute to watch a video.
I am now following 35 people and companies on twitter and I have 10 followers! Thank you! My hope is to use twitter a lot to promote my videos and selling cruises to you! So I expect to receive your e-mail messages at phelan_susan@yahoo.com or phone calls (number is in videos) when you have questions and are ready to reserve your well-deserved cruise vacation!
After all, what do you deserve?

Video Updates

My video count is now at 9! The Stupeflix.com video creation application is so easy to use and I definitely recommend it! My latest entries to YouTube are videos targeted to Hairdressers, First Responders and Law Enforcement Officers. Each of these groups qualifies easily to the "What do you deserve?" theme. The answer to the question is always a Cruise Vacation! Please take a peak at the videos and I hope you get a laugh at my sense of humor! Also, I welcome comments either linked to the videos or to my e-mail phelan_susan@yahoo.com. I have two more ready to create and upload. And I can easily think of many more groups of people who fall into the "What do you deserve?" category. Drop me a line if you have any groups that you want me to include - maybe you have some funny ideas for the slide titles in the videos. Have a great day!

Highlight of My Day!

As a mature (read middle-aged) person I am trying to join the social networking idea (slowing but surely) by learning new things. Most of the time I am using the application's help text ad trying to follow the steps. So far I have used a YouTube-sponsored application called Stupeflix to create some videos for my YouTube channel susan050359. I have 6 videos there so far and I welcome comments. Stupeflix gives you 1 minute videos for free and does charge for longer videos. I simply split the Honeymoon Cruise one into two parts to meet the free limits. As I am trying to sell cruises on an independent basis the videos created so far are for targeted audiences like Honeymooners, Family Cruises on Carnival, NCL and RCCL and Family Reunions. As I think of a particular type of group, my idea is to create a video for that group where I can gear the text and pictures to the group. Perhaps a group is young, physically active people and the video would include a picture of the sports court, pools, ice skating rink or zip line and rock climbing walls. A golf cruise video would include photos of courses say in Bermuda or the Caribbean highlighting where a guest might play while on a cruise.
Today I linked my YouTube videos to some tweets on twitter. Yes, I joined twitter too and my address is @SusanPhelan so please follow me. I want to get the word out that I am selling cruises by sending a tweet with the appropriate video link.

New Videos Added!

Hi All!
First a note to explain the name 'Blog About'. In Austalia, there is a 'walkabout' so I created a 'blog about'. It is where I can write about whatever I want or nothing at all. Lately I am trying to write about cruises and cruising. Check out my latest video additions on YouTube using my channel of susan050359. Please let me know how you like them (or not) at phelan_susan@yahoo.com. Cruises operate year-round and go anywhere in the world from Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, Europe and the Caribbean. They offer the best value for your travel dollar and the cruise lines have a lot of berths to fill on every cruise. The lines make their money when the ships are full and have held prices down to make your cruise vacation economical. Your cruise includes cabin (available in many styles and sizes), meals, onboard activities and entertainment. Activities available may include swimming, gyms, spas, rock climbing walls, pool tables, bowling, boxing, ice skating, surfing simulators, slides, zip lines, mini-golf, etc., etc., etc. So there is truly something for everyone on a cruise from grandparents to the grandchildren! When you are ready to book your next cruise vacation, call me at 860-582-0372 or use the above e-mail address and I will be happy to work with you to make your reservations. I work with a cruises-only travel agency in Connecticut with a high booking volume allowing me to offer you a great price on your cruise. I can't wait to work with you! Thanks for reading!

Youtube Videos

So yesterday I signed up for twitter and my username is @SusanPhelan. Today with the help of youtube video creation application stupeflix I have successfully created two videos. Stupeflix has a free version where your videos must be 1 minute or less and a version you can purchase. Since I am unemployed, I went with the free version. I was able to use an existing Powerpoint presentation, saved it in jpeg format and then imported it to stupeflix. I found that a minute is about 10 slides from the presentation so I did split the presentation into 2 parts.
Videos are on channel susan050359 and are titled Honeymoon Cruises Part 1 and 2. The theme and slogan if you will is 'What do you deserve?' I am not married so I have never had the pleasure of planning a wedding but I would think that it could be easy or difficult. I have tried to include some slides to give viewers a laugh or two and to make sure that the bridal couple knows that they truly do deserve a cruise as their honeymoon.
So engaged couples looking to plan the honeymoon and get real value for your travel dollar, book a cruise! You unpack once, meet lots of new people, eat all day, enjoy numerous activities or simply relax in the sun with a good book. Drop me a note at phelan_susan@yahoo.com and we can discuss your cruise plans. Follow me on twitter and watch for more youtube videos!

New Posts to Follow

Hello!
It has been almost 6 months since I last posted! Wow! Where did the time go? I can account for much of this time but the older I get the faster the time goes. I will be trying to become more diligient in posting my thoughts and comments on this blog.
First, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines is having a 2 day sale May 3 and 4 so drop me a note at phelan_susan@yahoo.com if you are interested in a price quote on a cruise with the best cruise line out there. It has been a number of years since I last cruised and I would love to go again. Personally I would like to see the Oasis of the Seas and her sister ship the Allure of the Seas. Both of these ships sail weekly from Fort Lauderdale in Florida. I have heard on good authority that the boarding process is so simple and fast that you can exit your transfer bus or cab from the airport, check-in with the agent in the terminal and actually be walking onboard the ship in 20 minutes! This may not sound like a lot to you but these two ships can carry 5400 guests at double occupancy (6300 if all berths are filled) so 20 minutes when there are that many other people in the area at the same time is fantastic! Congratulations go to the RCCL project teams that worked to build these ships and the project team that worked together with the Port Authority of Fort Lauderdale to build a new terminal that could support the Oasis and Allure and create this incredible speed in the boarding process! Everything that was done was done to give the guest more time on their vacation - something we all want!
Thanks for reading!
